Background Music System
Quick Read
Overview
Background music systems have become increasingly popular in public buildings and places where we spend our spare time such as retail, fitness, leisure, restaurants, health centres and car showrooms. Background music is also becoming essential within workplaces like distribution warehouses and manufacturers.
Many businesses are recognising that adding ambience with music is important in helping to create the right atmosphere for your customers and staff. Music can be very useful in keeping staff motivated and therefore productive and stimulated whilst also improving relationships with customers and has been proven to improve footfall and extend dwell times, potentially having the power to make businesses more profitable.
We work alongside our clients to ensure that all of our installations are designed to suit their needs, and can have inputs from a range of different music sources such as radio tuners, CD players, TV audio, or more recently internet streaming services such as Spotify or commercial streaming services. Many businesses now opt to use commercial streaming services as they can eliminate extra costs arising from a multitude of issues such as broken CD players, scratched discs, unauthorised music changes, or even music royalties. Music playlists can be created to suit a particular ambience or clientele and will play endlessly without any interaction. We can supply the hardware to be integrated into an existing setup or a completely new system and thereafter a monthly subscription will be required for the music.
Previous Installations
Our team has a breadth of knowledge and experience in designing and installing background music in high street retail brands, distribution centres, factories and hotel chains.
During our recent installation of background music in a high street brand’s warehouse we worked alongside the company to ensure that the system worked for them. This installation was designed to keep staff morale high, and designed with an automatic radio switcher to cater to all music tastes at set times. This may be at the sophisticated end of what is possible but based on our design, it worked very well and the staff were happy because they had been consulted. It was an easy win for all parties.
We have designed setups that can work on a zonal basis and can play different music in a variety of areas with others having the option for local inputs to play certain music within a zone without affecting the rest of the building’s music.
Service and Maintenance
If there is one lesson we learn every day, it is that a little maintenance can go a long way. We regularly attend to faults and failures which could have been averted if the system had been properly and regularly maintained. Small faults and niggles can quickly escalate to full-blown system failures which can then be costly and inconvenient to repair.
Many issues with background music are primarily due to poorly designed or badly installed setups. Setups that are crackly, intermittent, or just not set to the correct volume level will have a significant adverse effect on listeners. It is proven that poor quality background music will cause fatigue as our brains try to fill in the gaps of the music we know but cannot be heard properly and throughout a working day, this could have a negative impact on staff or customers so be sure to get your system right from the outset. Having your systems serviced regularly is important, and we offer all new and existing clients access to our Maintenance and Annual Check-up services.
