Voice Alarm Overview

Voice alarm systems (also known as PA/VA or Voice Evacuation Systems) are used in many public buildings such as industrial buildings, manufacturing sites, transport hubs, warehouses, hospitals, schools and offices. These systems help members of the public to find their nearest exit point in emergency situations, therefore the BS5839:8 recommends that voice alarm systems are installed in all buildings over 4 storeys high and in all public buildings. All of our installations contain fire proof speaker circuits, battery backup and fault monitoring, amongst many other features to allow them to work effectively in various emergencies.

Our team has the knowledge and expertise to integrate voice alarm into your fire alarm system, to provide assistance and broadcast a pre-recorded voice message explaining what is happening, where people need to go and what actions they should take.

Whilst the basic and primary function of Voice Alarm is an emergency evacuation system, when designed and specified properly, it can serve other applications such as providing health and safety alerts, providing passenger information in airports, railway and bus stations, providing advertising messages, playing background music and announcing information for staff or visitors.

Previous Installations

If there is one lesson we learn every day, it is that a little maintenance can go a long way. We regularly attend to faults and failures which could have been averted if the system had been properly and regularly maintained. Small faults and niggles can quickly escalate to full-blown system failures which can then be costly and inconvenient to repair.

Our team have designed, installed and regularly maintains voice alarm systems nationwide in a variety of buildings including theatres, hotels, sports grounds and high-rise city centre office buildings. As a respected and responsible service provider, we have access to the best equipment manufacturers in the industry, to support us with complex specifications and to offer technical support.

Voice Alarm Service and Maintenance

We have significant experience gained over many years in this critical sphere of public safety and if there is one lesson we learn every day, it is that a little maintenance can go a long way. We regularly attend to faults and failures which could have been averted if the system had been properly and regularly maintained. Small faults and niggles can quickly escalate to full-blown system failures which can then be costly and inconvenient to repair.

We have attended various issues regarding voice alarms, with many showing signs of poor maintenance which has contributed towards the demise of a system- with some being almost 25 years old. As a result, these systems have become outdated, and may no longer comply with the updated British Standards, and we regularly find that some components can no longer be supported and therefore may not work as required during emergencies.

In rare cases we have worked alongside our clients to keep systems ‘propped-up’ for short periods of time whilst the necessary decisions are made on capital spending or scheduling. Whilst this approach is not acceptable in the longer term, our decades of experience in this field allows us to use specialist knowledge, our stocks of previously retired equipment and manufacturer support to keep the show on the road in the short term.
